Ways to Detect Imbalance

1.Level head:
when walking, the head should be held straight, if its tipped to one side or one eye or ear are higher, the spine or skull may have joint dysfunction.

2 Even shoulders:
with dog standing with the shoulders square look down at him the shoulders. The shoulder blades should be even. If one is higher than the other or further away from the spine, this can effect his way of moving and his entire spine.

3 Level hips:
compare the height and angles of her hip bones. Hip bones are easier to find on a lean dog then the more plush models. Uneven hips will immediately affect the hind legs for which the front end will compensate

4.Leg length difference:
standing behind your dog or cat, carefully lift the hind legs by grasping the thighs close to the abdomen. The dog or cat should be standing on their front legs. Compare the length of the back legs-does one appear shorter? The animal may have a pelvic or low back dysfunction, for which the front end will compensate.

5. A telling tail:
watch your dogs tail, if it sets to one side or is tucked, joint dysfunction is likely

6. Traveling straight:
watch your dog walk. The hind end should follow the front in a straight path. If the hind appears off to one side a pelvic subluxation is likely.

7. Small paw print
walk your dog in sand or over a dark floor with flour on her feet. The injured leg will have a smaller paw print.
